There are many interesting things about Belgium, among them being the great diversely delicious cuisines found in the country. It is very mouth-watering, rich in flavor, with very good quality ingredients to boot. One of the common things served in almost every brasserie in the country probably is mussels served with fries, or moules-frites. Another well-known food is waffles, and these come in two forms. Wanes are thin and crispy and are known as the Belgian waffle or Brussels waffles, while the Liège waffle is thick and sweeter, and this is usually served with additional products.Beside chocolates, Belgium is also well known for its beer production, with more than 1,500 beer brands, and yes, Trappist and Abbey beers are brewed in monasteries by monks. Aside from that, chocolate takes its crucial part in the Belgian culture because all big names in Belgian chocolatiers, such as Neuhaus and Godiva, produce a million luxurious pralines and truffles. Other delicious dishes are carbonnade flamande-a sweet beef cooked in beer-and waterzooi-a thick soup of chicken or fish along with vegetables.
This country boasts plenty of famous destinations that represent the rich history of Belgium, its architecture, and its culture. In the capital city, Brussels, there stands the beautiful Grand Place, which is one of the world’s first UNESCO World Heritage sites. The guildhalls look truly imposing and a remarkable Town Hall completes this location as an absolute wonder, despite its advanced and highly modern appearance. Yet this is in relative proximity to Bruges, which without a doubt captivates visitors by its canals, medieval buildings, and the tower of Belfry as it allows for breathtaking views of the city.
Antwerp is noted as the heart of fashion and art, steeped in the magnificent Cathedral of Our Lady, housing paintings by Rubens, and the dynamic Antwerp Zoo. Ghent is a lively student town, featuring the Gravensteen Castle with impeccable preservation in medieval atmosphere of its city center; Saint Bavo’s Cathedral with its famous Ghent Altarpiece.Another feature of the city life in Liège is painted with vibrant colors of markets and nightlife at night. Ypres would be a sorrowful city for anyone to pay a visit if they show interest in the history of World War I, for it is visited by memorials and hosts the powerful and emotional Menin Gate. Lastly, the Ardennes can pride themselves on thick forests and everything that nature lovers might want. Altogether, these cities underline the peculiar charm and cultural heritage of Belgium.
